The Four Most Common Mistakes in Digital Advertising: Mistake #2 – Dismissing the Power of Graphics

The right image simply stops a prospect in their tracks and compels them to click on your ad. It doesn’t have to be images of your products or services, either. In fact, the more personally motivating and visually compelling the image, the better the click-through rates.

Is it your kids? Your significant other? Your pet? Perhaps your car, or motorcycle? Maybe a well-worn, favorite old shirt that is awesome to lounge around in on a Saturday?

They do not understand the power images have in an ad.

Images create emotional connections between viewers and ads they see, and making sure you’re using the RIGHT IMAGE is soooo important for maximizing your ad conversions. Most advertisers think their ads should include photos of their inanimate products, or software screenshots, or impressively appointed buildings or trucks. NO. NO. And NO. These things have as much personal appeal to prospects as, well, mud.

Space permitting, ads should include images that convey a positive feeling; something that just BEGS to be clicked on. If you’re really good, that compelling image ties intelligently into how or why a prospect would ENJOY using your business or service. The images should visually convey the emotional result of the ad’s benefits-driven copy and motivate the viewer to click, so they can more fully explore the exact same joy and happiness that they see in the ad image. Getting the right image for an ad is part science, part art, and a whole lot of experience.
